May 22nd

On this day in history - among other things - the first atlas was published, Lincoln patented a buoying device, Hitler and Mussolini signed the "Pact of Steel," Robert Zimmerman was Bar Mitzvahed, Susan Lucci lost her daytime Emmy for the 16th time, and the worst logo ever was unveiled in the city of Toronto:

Seriously, what's worse than this? And how can we reasonably expect victory from anybody wearing it?

I won't take this opportunity to try to pin the blame on ol' faithful. I have too many other things to do at the moment, but that aside, the logic'd probably break down if I thought about it.

(And incidentally, I expect full points for the way "logic'd" rolled off your tongue just now.)

Alex Hamilton was killed on my birthday, which I also share with the Bon Jovi guitarist.

Yeah.

'logic'd' is very solid.

As for the logo, I remember that day well, I swear to god. I was in full rage at NBA Commissioner David Stern and Speilberg - I'd say I was berserk, even.

That pig Stern figured that the NBA could cash in on the under-ten market's infatuation with dinos. Instead, for years to come, we'll be saddled with the lamest sports logo outside of Anaheim. No self-respecting kid past grade 5 would be caught dead wearing a Raptors jersey.

The NBA decided to let local fans choose what the name of the new franchise would be. Among a couple of others, the finalists were the Dragons and the Raptors. Given the choice, I thought Dragons had much more potential. Possible home jersey logo and road jersey logo. Something like those, anyway. And in an ideal world, players' names would be written in Chinese.

Not only would these jerseys have given the "Raptors" some credibility with the street toughs, they would also have sold well in China's exploding basketball market. But no, Stern actually had the nerve to tell us that Torontonians preferred the name Toronto Raptors.

I don't think so you fucking c**t!! One day, we will get our revenge.

Dragons would have been good.

I share a birthday with Perry Farrell and often ask myself: "Is that a good thing?"
