Destroyer Tour Dates

Craig D. Lindsey of PhilidelphiaWeekly.com has this to say about the latest album, due out in a few weeks:

"On 'This Night' (Merge), Destroyer--aka Dan Bejar plus lots of other Canadians--picks up where his last secret Goth missive left off, but this time, his hipster Edward Gorey tunes have more bite; the tunes here are fractured, beautiful, honest, and in that great way that is missing from the rock-is-back deal, authentically messed up in a tradition in keeping with Chilton, Robyn Hitchcock and yes, girls, T. Rex."

More bite?! T-Rex?! Holy Fucking Christ!

On a scale of one to ten, this album rates 36299134389588 and I won't stop listening to it for a long time to come. I want to say it 'makes my heart feel sick like fish when they're frying' (but I'd mean this in the best possible sense): "And now it's in my royal blood to vote and vote and vote on things that never change... Gods give and gods give our gifts away... Sired to the House of Lords on the day they declared it bankrupt and now conquered lands pay tribute to the shifts of your skirt, children at play get hurt, and wars are won from a foxhole..."

But what is absolutely killing me, and what I will soon be unable to get out of the loop in my mind's ear is the melody behind the phrase "I was looking good on the day that you fell for the way I looked", and later, the sound of sincerity in his voice when he sings of someone looking for a union: "I have seen it in your eyes", which of course reads like nothing, but sounds like the answer to the question 'where has all the music gone?'

Who cares where it went already? It's here, so we don't have to ask about that anymore.

Thank you!

Sex is not the answer. Sex is the question. Yes is the answer.
