Criterion is releasing a box-set of Cassavetes movies. Now we can all roll our eyes and fidget for what seems like decades during this alcoholic misogynist megalomaniac's "films" with brand-new crystal-clear prints. Each box-set comes with a replica Ray Carney bow-tie and special cultural myopia glasses.
Posted by at Mayo 28, 2004 12:16 AMDude, a call to arms. Drink a zix-pack of Zima XXX before you even dare respond to this shitl.
Posted by: on Mayo 28, 2004 12:18 AM .there is. it's misandry.
but you'd be surprised by how hard it is to actually find that. I have 5 different dictionaries at home (such a nerd), and it's only listed in one of them.
Posted by: marijke on Mayo 30, 2004 07:31 PM .Yeah, men weren't allowed to be hated in 1959 according to the contributing editors at Oxford University Press. Le Tigre don't hate men, they hate transgendered peoples. Which dictionary lists 'misandry'? Does it have a nice dustjacket?
Posted by: TheDiscourse! on Mayo 30, 2004 10:07 PM .I think Le Tigre actually does say stuff about hating men in the latter half of that album, a bunch of tracks after that who-put-the-bom-she-bomm-bomm song, but who can stand to listen that far into the album?
But as for Cassavettes, i'm not american, so i can't judge his films so harshly. i don't or haven't lived the colloquial ease and terror of 1960s/70s American life for myself. Fugazi named a song after him, and they are ok, if not a bit too serious sometimes. i would never trust a straightedger myself. but Gloria is fine fine american movie making.
Posted by: Spancan on Mayo 31, 2004 01:24 AM .Discourse -- it was in the Canadian Oxford (and I've long since lost the dust jacket.)
Websters (College and Encyclopedic) didn't list it, and neither did American Heritage, and it wasn't listed in the thesaurus, either.
Posted by: marijke on Mayo 31, 2004 09:53 AM .As much as I hate men and love words that denote this hatred, the Canadian Oxford is a fucking ugly book and I wouldn't dare touch it.
An aside; ÿ, you realize that this whole stupid thread was just an attempt to goad you into blogging again. It didn't work and after this you don't exist to me anymore. It's over. You are over. Boy, are YOU going to miss out.
ok, so i'm dense. i just read the other post and realized why you asked about the dustjacket.
yes, the CanOx jacket is awful, but if you remove the jacket, i actually find the stately blue hardcover with bold, in-your-face lettering quite pleasing.
and now i'll stop talking about dictionaries.
Bring ÿ back!
We miss ÿ!
You can do it, ÿ!
